About Talent Week

It is intended that Talent Week should become a national and annual event that encourages young people (14 - 25) to think about and recognise their own talents as well as think about how to make the most of them in the future.

We believe that everybody has talent and that making the most of this talent is the secret to success and fulfillment.

Talent Week celebrates the widest possible range of talents from reading, getting on with people, dance, community service, entrepreneurship, sport, music, cooking, drama, fashion, art, and much more.

We are encouraging young people to create talent bricks to build an online and a Talent Walls in shopping centres. The Talent Wall was piloted in two shopping centres Meadow Hall (Sheffield) and Hempstead Valley (Gillingham) in the October half term in 2008. More shopping centres are participating in talent Week this summer. We are working towards a national Talent Week in every shopping centre in 2010.

The Talent Wall is the catalyst for a programme of events celebrating talent.

Talent Week is non-profit making and has been developed through a partnership of The Talent and Enterprise Taskforce, Business in the Community, Edge and the British Council of Shopping Centres. It has received additional support from Make Your Mark.

For Teachers and Parents

We hope you encourage your students and children to get involved in Talent Week. Our aim is to give them an opportunity to think about their talents and how they want to make the best of them.

The Talent Bricks use technology that is familiar to them. The personalisation of the Talent Bricks and the competition for best brick should add a fun element to the event. All bricks will be featured in the relevant shopping centre Talent Wall and we hope all participants go to view the wall. However, everyone can view the wall here at www.talentweek.co.uk.

We are keen that all participants can rate each other's bricks and they can add pictures of their friends to their brick, but nobody can contact each other or any of the participants for safety reasons. Also no addresses or e-mail addresses will be made available, nor will Talent Week allow any third party to contact any participants.

We will be holding a number of Talent events at the shopping centres including opportunities for schools and colleges to showcase their students' talent. If you would like your school to participate please contact Joe Newell at karen@giraffe-ideaworks.co.uk.
